Meet the Team

NickHello, my name is Nick Tsarevsky (but you can call me simply “Professor Nick” or “Nick”). I work in the SMU Department of Chemistry, where I do research related mostly to making giant molecules (called polymers) with controlled shapes and sizes, which can be used in a variety of applications from making new coatings, adhesives, and plastics, all the way to drug delivery. I am also very interested in the history of chemistry and art. I actually teach a course, which deals with a variety of materials used by artists, including metals, pigments, glasses, and ceramics, from the most ancient to current times.

ShannonMy name is Shannon Woodruff and I completed my Ph.D. in chemistry at SMU under the advisement of Professor Nick. I made a lot of new and interesting polymers with a wide variety of applications, using more environmentally-friendly techniques. One of my ongoing interests lies in spreading the passion of chemistry to those who may not yet know its beauty. Aside from my involvement at SMU, I also helped organize several chemistry camps and participated in numerous chemical demonstration events for audiences of all ages during my undergraduate years.

I currently maintain the website and help in providing new content.
